Do I Need a Clitoral Hood Reduction or a Clitoropexy?

Back to All

This is a common question we receive at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation from women who are researching labiaplasty procedures, and who are trying to decide which procedure is right for them. Also, with all the different terms for labia procedures it’s hard to know what’s what. With that said, you could be a candidate for both procedures — a clitoral hood reduction and a clitoropexy — or you may only need one. Every patient we see has a unique anatomy and each procedure is tailored with that person’s outcomes in mind.

Clitoral Hood Reduction: What Is It?

Clitoral hood reduction is typically suited for patients who have excess folds of tissue at the level of the clitoral hood. These women often feel that they have a mound of tissue at the top of the vagina, or feel that clitoral stimulation is difficult. When performing a clitoral hood reduction, we remove the excess tissue and folds that are present around the clitoris, creating a smoother more aesthetic appearance that blends with the labia. Reduction of this tissue also allows for easier exposure of the clitoris without overexposing. These are typically combined with labiaplasty procedures.

Clitoropexy: What Is It?

Clitoropexy involves elevating the clitoris. This is a procedure recommended for women who may notice the erectile tissue of the clitoris protruding from the clitoral hood, or if the clitoris and clitoral hood area are elongated. By elevating the clitoral tissue, we can reduce the overall clitoral hood length and reduce the protrusion of the clitoris itself. These are also typically combined with labiaplasty procedures. If you are curious as to what the procedure looks like, we have a gallery of before and after photos so potential patients can see the results.

It is important to note that regardless of whether you’re undergoing a clitoropexy, clitoral hood reduction, or both, the erectile tissue of the clitoris will not be affected. This means, if anything, you should notice improvement in clitoral stimulation with intercourse.

If you are considering labiaplasty, vaginal rejuvenation, or just want more information about any of our procedures, schedule an appointment with us today! All procedures are done in our in office outpatient suite under oral and local anesthetic. We recommend patients take a week off of work for initial healing. Follow up in the office after surgery is two, six, and twelve weeks post op.
