Who Do You Want in Your Business? Choosing a Labiaplasty Surgeon

Let’s cut to the chase. Deciding to have any medical procedure is a big step that has numerous considerations. Labiaplasty, in particular, can be an intimidating procedure for a woman. Face it, you don’t want just anyone operating in such an intimate area. One of the biggest considerations when it comes to a medical procedure, major or minor, is choosing a surgeon you trust and in whom you have the confidence to provide the best care. Many women ask “Is it better to have a labiaplasty performed by a gynecologist or a plastic surgeon?”

Both types of physicians are capable of performing the procedure, but only if they are properly trained to do so. Your level of comfort with a health care provider is absolutely paramount, so the first step when considering labiaplasty is to do your research. But, where do you start?

After finding qualified physicians in your area that are well known in their respective fields, see what former patients have to say about them. Any gynecologist or plastic surgeon that does good work will have the reviews to prove it. There is no shortage of healthcare-specific review sites where you can go to get more information. Or, you can even just Google it! Yes, even Google reviews can be very telling when vetting a physician for a procedure. Obviously, you should never go to someone with mediocre or bad reviews but if they have no reviews at all, that’s also a red flag.

The next step is to choose a doctor who is a specialist in labiaplasty. An experienced physician should not only have been performing these procedures for a long time but should also be performing them often and doing great work. Avoid a gynecologist or plastic surgeon who has a different area of specialization and only “dabbles” in labiaplasty. If they are well versed in the procedure, they should also have before and after photos to show their quality of work – lots of before and after photos.

Once you’ve done your homework and found a physician who appears to be well-versed in labiaplasty, schedule a consultation. This is the only real way to find out if you’re comfortable with that person, and comfort counts. He or she should be timely, patient, responsive and have a good bedside manner.

So while the answer to the question, “Should I go to a gynecologist or a plastic surgeon for labiaplasty?” isn’t so clear cut, the bottom line is that you should do your research before even scheduling a consultation. Find an experienced physician you feel comfortable with and has a lot of positive results to show for his or her work.
